Early Life

Tsubaki is the heir to the Yayoi family of the Duodecim; the Yayoi's are a dignified family that has served the Imperator for many generations. Focused on creating the best soldiers, they became obsessed with producing offspring with high Ars Magus aptitudes to the point they resorting to inbreeding. Generations of inbreeding became their downfall, and Tsubaki was the only child of her parents to survive; her siblings all had early deaths due to the pure bloodline. As the heir, Tsubaki had a strict upbringing. She had minimal contact to the world outside her manor; only being able to interact with her parents, relatives, and teachers. As the daughter of the family loyal to the Imperator, she was taught that she must serve the Imperator unquestionably.

Tsubaki's father is the head of the family, and he would take Tsubaki to monthly meetings between other families of the Duodecim when she was a child. January, they'd visit the Mutsukis, February, the Kisaragis, and so on. She met her childhood friend, Jin Kisaragi, at one of these meetings.

Military Academy

Heart to Heart, Remix Heart, Variable Heart, Spiral Shift, The BLUE

AD2196 was the year when Tsubaki first entered the Military Academy.

During her first day at the Military Academy, Tsubaki met her roommates Noel Vermillion and Makoto Nanaya; Makoto was hostile towards Tsubaki and Noel. A few days later, an incident occurred in a classroom: three students were bullying Makoto for being a beastkin, leading to the students getting violent. Tsubaki intervened, questioning what happened. Noel explained Makoto was being harassed and one student went to slap Makoto; Makoto dodged, leading them to stumble and hit their head on a desk. The students continued antagonizing, now targeting Noel's low status and family.

Tsubaki: I can't even stand the sight of your deformed mouths from all the foul language and your sunken eyes from looking down at others... I truly feel sorry for your so-called "family name."

Tsubaki chastized the students, commentating on their bigotry and privilege. The students leave in shame. Later, Tsubaki discusses Makoto's situation with Jin. Makoto received a three-day suspension due to one of the students from the incident being from an influential family. Tsubaki leaves to find Makoto after Jin suggested to talk honestly with her.

Tsubaki and Noel search a cliff side for Makoto. Tsubaki teases Noel, causing Noel to step near fragile part of the cliff; the cliff starts to collapse. Tsubaki and Noel fall and find themselves in an abandoned district with Makoto. Makoto happened to be there when they fell and broke their fall with her tail. Tsubaki goes to look for a way out, but Makoto stops her after noticing Tsubaki injured herself. Tension builds between the two, Makoto accuses Tsubaki of always trying to endure pain by herself, then Tsubaki in return accuses Makoto of the same. Makoto lashes out, saying she's different from them. Noel questions how she's different, prompting Makoto to break down and cry. Makoto expresses she isn't different from everyone else. Jin then arrives, getting help for Tsubaki and the rest.

Jin chastizes the three girls; he explains the student council has decided to punish them, but Makoto objects to Tsubaki and Noel being punished. He insists they will all receive equal punishment: cafeteria duty for the next week. Tsubaki thanks Jin quietly to herself realizing the motive behind the punishment. The three girls happily carry out cafeteria duty, finally considering each other as friends.

One week after meeting Noel and Makoto, Tsubaki met Mai Natsume and they became good friends very quickly. She went to the Ars Magus aptitude test which was presided over by Estella McKenzie; she was noted to be great at all subjects and areas, but not excelling in any particular one. Like Makoto, Tsubaki warned Mai to not eat Noel's cooking that evening, but watched as she did, startling her. It was at this point that Tsubaki learnt of Mai's super taste ability and helped to look after her after she fainted in the girl's changing rooms. It was also at this point that she met Kajun Faycott. The Torifune Festival soon followed, and Tsubaki applied to be a part of the student council. She was also introduced to Taro Sasaga'e and Akane Teruhiko, the latter of whom noted her to be attractive. She participated in the main tournament of the festival, having used a strategy created by Kajun and Mai. She made it to the finals but Kajun interrupted and won, telling Tsubaki that she would spend less time with Jin if she became the 'Izanami'.

The girls travelled down to the lower levels of Torifune to find watermelons for Mai. They found themselves in a thick cloud of seithr and sought refuge in a nearby mansion where they were attacked by a mutated watermelon - Mai saved them, and they all found the Evolution Grimoire. The girls decided to name themselves Team Remix Heart. They were soon ordered to clean Estella's room as a part of spring cleaning, and when they did so, they found a secret room and the Ammit Cryas - they gave the Grimoire back to her, but were ordered the maximum penalty for having gone through her belongings. As the sports festival came, Remix Heart competed, with Tsubaki using Ars Magus to protect Makoto as she bruised her way past the competition; they discovered that they would have to find the Conversion Grimoire. They made their way to the lower levels of Torifune, arriving in a desert area. While there, they found the Guardian after Makoto fell into a lion ant pit and was saved by Mai. Under Tsubaki's brief advice, they passed his second trial and were awarded the Conversion Grimoire, although they discovered that they came last place in the festival.

Due to Taro, Remix Heart and Jin were thrown to a beach near Torifune when its weather system had broken down. There, Tsubaki used Golden Angel supplied by Kajun, and they discovered the Regulation Grimoire. Together they fixed it, and the weather system returned to Torifune. She would soon find Mai sleeping, having a dream created by the Hypnagogia Grimoire, and attempted to wake her by drawing Hakumen and various Pakumen, but Tsubaki, Makoto, Noel, and Kajun had to fight them off. In her dream, Mai saw a vision of Tsubaki becoming Izayoi, but did not say anything when she finally awoke. When Mai lost her memories, the tears of her friends were the only way to bring them back, so Tsubaki cried for her by not blinking, being relieved when her memories returned. Eventually, the girls decided to go to the lower levels of Torifune in the pursuit of the Azure Grimoire, even against Tsubaki's initial protests. There, using various Grimoires that Noel had stolen, they managed to get past a challenge for cooking, but were soon separated from Mai. After completing a challenge that involved laundry with Noel, Makoto, and Kajun, they soon found Mai next to the Aedsqui Grimoire, and returned to the higher levels, disappointed that the Azure Grimoire wasn't there. Tsubaki also learnt that Mai had become the Intermediary Grimoire, and that she had kissed Taro - she only came to realise that Mai had passed on Noel's cooking to Taro when she was bathing with the other girls, realising that Jin would be in danger; her advances were stopped by Shiori Kirihito and Chachakaka. She fell for Shiori's lies that she was frail, and went to help Jin recover from his consumption of "death dinner".

Tsubaki watched as Shiori and Noel worked together to create porridge for Akane, Jin, and Taro to eat in the hopes of them recovering. She watched as Jin went berserk with Yukianesa, and as he begun to swing for Mai, being relieved when he was finally stopped by Cypher Albar. This would be the only time she ever saw him act like this. As she was somewhat involved in the incident, she had to watch over the icebergs created, but was attacked by a Torifune panda that Kajun removed from her, being embarrassed that Jin saw her squirming while it was under her swimsuit. She soon helped Mai dress up for her date with Taro, helping wash her hair. Tsubaki, along with all of Team Remix Heart, berated Taro for being late. When survival training came for the first years, Tsubaki was paired with Noel and Makoto, and managed to find the body of the Mountain Jellyfish. They defeated it when they reunited with Shiori, Kajun, and Mai, and arrived in first place for their achievement.

Mai fell into an alchemy-induced coma, and Tsubaki helped round up the strongest Ars Magus users in the Academy to cure her of her condition under Cypher's orders, but was trapped into having their Ars Magus aptitude drained from them, only to be saved by Chachakaka, who also revealed that Mai was the male heir of the Hazuki family using the Ammit Cryas. Mai awoke from her coma, and saved Team Remix Heart from being crushed by Cypher. Tsubaki hugged Mai, recognizing how difficult it was for her to hide her secret. After seeing Shiori and Mai teleported away by the professor, Tsubaki helped round up the strongest Ars users in the Academy to foil Cypher's plan of creating a Burning Red Grimoire. They succeeded, and Tsubaki was forced to deal with a lot of paperwork surrounding the incident.

In her second year, Tsubaki went to Jin's medal ceremony in the 2nd Hierarchical City of Iwatsuchi with Mai, Noel, and Makoto. She saw Kagura, but Makoto knocked him out, and instead met Hibiki. He put the girls to work, but they soon lost Mai. Thanks to Akane, she was reunited with Mai, Shiori, Taro, and Jin for a brief while. In her third year, Tsubaki helped teach Noel and Makoto more on the Nox Nyctores, and was not initially happy with Noel graduating six months early. Eventually, this dislike festered more and more, but she hid this away from her friends.

Continuum Shift

A soldier of the Novus Orbis Librarium's "Zero Squadron" that fills in the role of the military police. Her rank is first lieutenant. She received an imperial decree to eliminate her missing childhood friend Jin and her best friend Noel, and while tormented with doubts, takes in hand the heirloom of the prestigious Yayoi family, the "Sealed Weapon Izayoi," and chases after them.

Carl: ...So it was you after all, Tsubaki. Tsubaki: It's been a while, Carl... I wish we didn't have to meet this way... Carl: I see you already know all about me... As expected from the Wings of Justice.... Tsubaki: Yes, I know that you are an accomplished vigilante who wields the Nox Nyctores Nirvana... Carl: That is not my sister's name! Tsubaki: ...Carl, I will be frank with you. My priority just now is the capture of Ragna the Bloodedge. I haven't time to deal with you. So please, rid yourself of that Nox Nyctores... Carl: Perhaps you might know, Tsubaki... Tsubaki: ...Huh? Carl: Where is my father? Tsubaki: !? Relius Clover... Jin: The Librarium's Squad Zero...the Wings of Justice, huh? What do the trash collectors want with me? Tsubaki: ...Jin. Jin: !? ...Tsubaki?! But that's... the Armagus Izayoi...! Tsubaki: Ji--no. Major Kisaragi. Your desertion is the capstone to countless other acts of insubordination. Even the Hero of Ikaruga cannot disobey the NOL forever. Jin: Tsubaki... Do you understand what the weapon you are holding is? Do you know what it -does-? Tsubaki: Of course I do. But it is my duty to stop you, for the sake of the Duodecim Gentese. Jin: Tch... To choose a weapon like that... Does the Librarium mean that much to you? Do you really believe in what the Duodecim are doing? Tsubaki: ...Jin. Tell me what this is about! Tsubaki: I'm sorry, Noel... My orders, the word of the Imperator, are absolute. I won't ask for your forgiveness... I'm sorry. Noel: No... Tsubaki? Tell me this isn't real... Tsubaki: Lieutenant Noel Vermillion. In the name of the Imperator, I exercise my right as an executor of the court. Hazama: Going on...? Well gosh, kid, it's not that complicated. You slow down Major Kisaragi with the Izayoi, then deal with Lieutenant Vermillion. OK, well, actually you were supposed to lose to Vermillion-- die fighting, ideally-- but hey, that's what we call a "margin of error," right? Good thing I always plan ahead! Tsubaki: Wh-What are you Hazama: To be honest, I was kinda hoping you'd kill the major like you were supposed to...! Man... You really are useless, aren't you? Tsubaki: ...Captain Hazama, where do you intend to take Lieutenant Vermillion? Hazama: Where? Uh, right here, of course. Oh...wait... Have...have your eyes gone out already? You poor girl. Kinda pointless if it steals your own... Still, you were a big help, kid. Tsubaki: !? What do you intend to do with Noel? Terumi: Oh, nothing big. I'm just gonna return her to her true form... The form of the Anti-Sankishin Core Unit! Tsubaki: A...Anti-Sankishin Core Unit!? Terumi: Hmmm... Guess it doesn't really matter what I tell you now, huh... All right, well, you know a bit about the Nox Nyctores, yeah? Well, humanity made one that can combat the Sankishin. BlazBlue: Continuum Shift - Part 1, Continuum Shift - Part 2

Tsubaki receives orders through Hazama from the Imperator to assassinate Jin Kisaragi and Noel Vermillion. Shaken, Tsubaki accepts and as she leaves she bumps into Relius Clover, an encounter she quietly muses about.

Tsubaki made her way to the Yayoi manor to retrieve the Izayoi. To her surprise, she was met by her father. Tsubaki intended to take Izayoi without discussing the matter with anyone. Tsubaki's father could infer why Tsubaki would need the weapon from the white color of her uniform. Tsubaki assured him despite the dangers of the Izayoi, it was needed for an urgent mission from the Imperator and she couldn't leave it to anyone else.

Pinky promise

Tsubaki made her way to the room containing Izayoi and started to reminisce about her first meeting with Jin where they made a promise.

Later, Tsubaki encountered Jin in Roningai. Eventually, Tsubaki initiated a fight with Jin since he wasn't being cooperative. Sensing Jin's hesitation to fight, Tsubaki warned Jin that she was serious. Tsubaki lunged her blade towards Jin in an attempt to intimidate him; however, a small child who was chasing her ball found herself in the middle of the fight and in front of Tsubaki's lunging blade. Jin was able to grab the small girl to protect her to take the blow, but Jin was fatally stabbed through the back.

As a result of Jin's death, Takamagahara intervened to reset the event before the moment Jin and Tsubaki met in Roningai. This time, Tsubaki encountered Bang instead and inquired about Jin's whereabouts. Bang answered he hadn't seen him, thus Tsubaki moved on.

Tsubaki later encountered Hakumen in a restricted area and warned him of trespassing. Hakumen warned her of the dangers of using the Izayoi, but Tsubaki was resolved to use it as she believed she needed it to save someone. This prompts Hakumen to tell Tsubaki of a story from his past. It was about a woman he couldn't save who was his childhood friend and sacrificed herself to protect him; unbeknownst to Tsubaki, it was a story about herself and Jin Kisaragi from a previous timeline.

Shortly after her talk with Hakumen, Hazama approached Tsubaki. He asked her if she wanted to know the “truth” about what her true place in the world is. The truth that Noel Vermillion is someone who shouldn't exist, and that she had taken Tsubaki's true place within the world

Erratic, Tsubaki found Noel and initiated a fight with her. Noel was able to win against Tsubaki, but Tsubaki told Noel to run away as she will have no choice but to kill her if she continues to stand before her.

Tsubaki later found and confronted Jin at the Cathedral. Tsubaki pleaded to Jin to return with her to the NOL, but Jin showed contempt for the NOL and their methods, inciting a fight.

Despite the clash, Tsubaki questioned why Jin wasn't trying to cut her, with Jin questioning the same of her. With Tsubaki upset, Jin approached her closely and was shocked to realize she had gone blind. Tsubaki once again asked him to return, but Jin calmly explained he has something he feels he needs to do; that he feels like a puppet and if he finds out why he wants to kill Ragna so strongly he will no longer be one. Tsubaki tells Jin she understands. As Tsubaki was about to let him go, Terumi interferes through Izayoi's barrier. Through his poisonous methods, Terumi causes Tsubaki to become erratic and panicked. Irrational, Tsubaki starts attacking Jin again despite his pleas for her to snap out of it. Hazama eventually appears after Jin locates him, Tsubaki is transported elsewhere after Hazama orders Phantom to get rid of her.

Tsubaki then found herself in darkness. In that darkness, Tsubaki felt an overwhelming presence and heard a noble voice. As light approached, the girl extended her hand to Tsubaki, rescuing her from the darkness; Tsubaki reached back and grasped her hand.

Chrono Phantasma

Tsubaki Yayoi, who had been filled with false light by the Imperator, was praised and promoted to Major for her confrontation with Ragna the Bloodedge. Tsubaki, as part of the Wings of Justice under the direct command of the Imperator, travels to the region of Ikaruga to subjugate those traitors who resent the NOL. However, her wings have been dyed black.

Arcade Mode

Stage 3: Bullet

Bullet: That uniform. You're one of the Wings of Justice... Tsubaki: ...And you are? Bullet: Me? Hah, well...let's just say I used to be in a squadron who suffered at the hands of your so-called Wings of Justice. You guys make me sick. Now, do I need to explain why I stopped you? Tsubaki: So you decide to bear your fangs at the Librarium... Bullet: I'm glad we're on the same page. I'll give you a little taste of what we've been through...and I'll be sure to take my time. <Tsubaki Victory> Bullet: Guah...how can this...! Tsubaki: ...This is Major Tsubaki Yayoi, reporting. I've captured a rebel and have her in my custody. Requesting back-up to take her in.

Stage 6: Makoto Nanaya

Makoto: Tsubaki, wait! Tsubaki: ...Makoto... Makoto: There's something fishy going on in the Librarium! Please...leave while you can and come with me! Tsubaki: Makoto, you're the one with which there is something wrong. Return to the NOL before it's too late. I may not be able to erase these events completely, but we can plead to the Imperator to lighten your sentence... Eventually you should even make it back on the force. Makoto: Tsu-Tsubaki...? Tsubaki: ...This is your final warning. Lieutenant Makoto Nanaya, if you fail to comply, then even I will not be able to prevent you from being court-martialed. Makoto: What the hell happened to you?! The Tsubaki I knew wasn't like this at all...her eyes were warm and affectionate... Not like this. Not like yours... Tsubaki: You say strange things, Makoto. I have always been like this... Makoto: No! You were...you were much kinder before...! Tsubaki: Then, perhaps the Imperator has enlightened me. Makoto: You're kidding me...right? What happened to our best friend in the academy? Tsubaki: If you resist...then I will have no choice but to take you in by force! <Tsubaki Victory> Makoto: Uh...ah...Tsu...Tsubaki... Tsubaki: I have captured Lieutenant Makoto Nanaya. Please send officers to take her in. ...Bring her to the nearest Librarium outpost in Ikaruga...? N-No, I understand. Roger that. ...The governing family here is...the House of Mutsuki. And the current head should be Kagura Mutsuki...

Stage 7: Hakumen

Hakumen: ...What are you doing here? Tsubaki: Lord Hakumen...? ...I am chasing the criminal Ragna the Bloodedge on the Imperator's orders... Hakumen: ...Hm. Tsubaki: ?! What is the meaning of this...? Do you mean to protect that notorious criminal? Hakumen: I am not doing this for Ragna the Bloodedge...but also, I cannot have you proceed any further. Tsubaki: To point your sword at me...is to draw your sword against the Imperator herself...do you understand what you are– Hakumen: Obviously... I have never given the Librarium my allegiance... The Imperator, even more so. Tsubaki: I cannot let you stand against the Imperator, even though you are one of the six heroes...! Hakumen: How pitiful... Your consciences taken away, and your heart shackled. Though your eyes may now see the light...they have lost sight of the truth. I pray that you may break free of this curse... <Tsubaki Victory> Tsubaki: ...You are one of the heroes after all...! Ah...but my life, I give to the Imperator...! Hakumen: ...It's about time. I shall leave the rest in his hands...

Stage 8: Jin Kisaragi

Tsubaki: Jin...! Ah...ugh... ...Major Jin Kisaragi...there is a warrant for your arrest. Please, surrender your weapon and turn yourself in. Jin: Tsubaki...how pathetic can you get? Tsubaki: You're the foolish one, Jin...! The Librarium exists to maintain the peace and order in this world... We need the Imperator's government. Jin: ...Hmph, perhaps pathetic was the wrong word... You really are...stupid. Tsubaki: ... Jin: The Librarium hardly matters to me. I came to find you for two reasons: the first– Ragna the Bloodedge is my prey– don't you dare touch him. The second...to save you, Tsubaki. Tsubaki: To save...? Have you lost your mind, Jin? I've already been saved by the Imperator...! Jin: Wake up! How can you give this government your blind faith...? Tsubaki, the Imperator is neither just nor evil... Its very existence is "death" itself. Tsubaki: Words hardly fitting a member of the Duodecim. To mock the Imperator is to beckon death. Jin Kisaragi, the moment you uttered those words, you've committed treason against the state. You are hereby sentenced to death!

Never Break Your Heart

AD2200/02/03 Tsubaki: Uh...ah...aaahhh....ugh. Jin: The mind eater is losing control...! Tsubaki: Ah...M-Major...Jin...Kisaragi... For your act of treason...I will sentence you... I will execute...you...! Tsubaki: ...N-No... Please...save me... Jin! Jin: Tsubaki! Dammit...! A binding curse...! The Imperator?! What...is this? Izayoi: I shall serve the blade of justice unto those who defy the order. Jin: ...I see... So this is Izayoi's true form... Izayoi: To stand against the Librarium is to stand against the Imperator. Story Mode

Having been promoted to a Major, Tsubaki was given her own office. In the February of 2200AD, Hazama came into her office, offering his congratulations to her. She was not happy, aware that she had been made a paragon of virtue for the NOL's troops since Jin had disappeared. Tsubaki knew she was in Hazama's machinations but Mind Eater still made her fiercely loyal to Izanami. As Hazama gave orders to Tsubaki to head to the Ikaruga Region to capture Ragna, she dismissed him, calling out Jin's name as she struggled against the spell that made her so obedient.

When she arrived in the 6th Hierarchical City of Yabiko, she was greeted by Kagura. She asked him to address her formally in public and he told her that they had something important to talk about later. They were soon interrupted by Hazama, who was outwardly rude towards the Colonel; Tsubaki reminded Hazama as his place as their subordinate before making her way back to her Ars Magus vessel.

In the remains of the 5th Hierarchical City of Ibukido, Ragna found Tsubaki. The two battled, but she was at a major disadvantage since Ragna was experienced with fighting against wielders of the Lux Sanctus: Murakumo, and Izayoi was its prototype. She expressed her desire to kill him, but before Ragna could destroy Izayoi, Hakumen jumped in front of her and protected her from the blow. She retreated on his orders. A large-scale Phenomenon Intervention happened, resetting this event so Ragna and Tsubaki never met each other in Ibukido. When she arrived in Ibukido in this different phase, she found Makoto instead thanks to information that Hibiki had given her. Tsubaki won as Makoto held back, yet her mind was being more corrupted through Mind Eater. Before she could complete the arrest, Kagura intterupted her, showing her an imperial decree and taking Makoto into custody himself.

Having heard that Ragna had been captured by Kagura, Tsubaki made her way to the Colosseum, seeing Ragna bound and being introduced to Kagura's new secretary, Ayatsuki. She chose to not stay to watch the Battle of Ragna the Bloodedge, instead waiting outside of the arena since she detests those kinds of spectacles. After the battle, she came back and reprimanded Kagura for being so reckless, chastising him for allowing Azrael to appear. Regardless, she headed towards the Colosseum to pick up Ragna and to take him back to NOL headquarters.

However, an Eclipse Field was erected directly over the area. Tsubaki concluded that the rumors that Kagura was leading a rebellion were true, and was met by Makoto, Noel, and Jin. Struggling to fight back against Mind Eater, Tsubaki battled Makoto and lost, being pushed at her limits. Makoto then retreated, allowing Noel to Observe her, enraging Tsubaki, who, pushed at the limits and questioning her place in the world, was finally able to activate the Zero-Type Izayoi, donning the mantle Izayoi. She battled Jin, and in her struggle to overcome Mind Eater, used the Immortal Breaker on him. Tsubaki believed she killed the man she loved and the curse was lifted – thankfully Jin was immune from it thanks to Order.

She stood back and then hugged him, apologizing for everything she had done under Izanami's influence before going over to Noel and Makoto – the three girls started crying together, the beginning of the nightmare was over. Kagura then approached them and told them of his plan to discreetly change the government and rebel against Izanami, something Tsubaki was initially reluctant to participate in. She was then introduced to Homura Amanohokosaka, the true heir to the NOL.

Tsubaki and Jin were ordered to guard Homura, although she clashed with Valkenhayn R. Hellsing, who's sharp tongue towards Jin earned Tsubaki's scorn. During their time guarding him, the group at Kushinada's Lynchpin were attacked by Relius, so Tsubaki and Makoto made their way there to help them. When she arrived, she challenged Relius, buying time for Ragna, Noel, and Celica to escape; with just Bang and Makoto by her side, Tsubaki challenged and defeated Carl. Unfortunately, their opponents managed to escape when the flow of seithr had stopped, as Bang was successful in nailing the Lynchpin with Rettenjo.

Tsubaki visited Jin after he was mortally wounded by Ragna, who had been sent berserk by Izanami and had disappeared. Celica was working hard to heal him, and Tsubaki wished her the best of luck. As she left the infirmary, she punched the nearest wall, earning a comment from Rachel about an act being out of character. She told the vampire that she was going to find Ragna and bring him to justice – Rachel told Tsubaki that if Ragna died before she or Jin could kill him, then she would need to use the Zero-Type Izayoi to kill her instead, eradicating the evil from the world.

Tsubaki: You there, halt! I need to see some identification. Tager: ...Soldier from the Library. Tsubaki: Novus Orbis Librarium, 4th Division, First Lieutenant Tsubaki Yayoi. Now, your identification. Tager: Wasn't expecting to run into you this soon. Tsubaki: Are you unable to produce it? Red Devil from Sector Seven. Tager: You knew...? That makes the identification seem useless. Tsubaki: Intervention from other organizations is currently prohibited on NOL territory. I'm taking you into custody. Tager: And if I refuse? Tsubaki: Obvious... I take you by force! <Tsubaki Victory> Tsubaki: I have captured the suspect known as the Red Devil from Sector Seven. Requesting back-up... Kokonoe: Tager, get ready to be teleported. Tager: Roger that. The sooner the better. Tsubaki: Wha--!? Teleportation!? How are they able to use that...? But... First the vigilantes, and now Sector Seven is invading Kagutsuchi. I need to find you... Jin.

Tsubaki: Jin...! Um, Captain Kisaragi! Jin: Tsubaki... Tsubaki: Captain, you've disobeyed your orders. Please, return with me to the nearest branch. Jin: Captain... Hmph. Seems like even the Izayoi is unable to fight the effects of the Embryo. Tsubaki: Embryo...? Jin: I'm sorry Tsubaki, but I cannot do that. My purpose is far more important than the NOL's childsplay. Tsubaki: Your purpose...? At the very least, please share it with me. What are you trying to do? Jin: ...In your current state, it will only fall on deaf ears. Tsubaki: Wha...!? Jin: Step aside, Tsubaki. Tsubaki: ...In order to maintain the laws of the NOL, I cannot honor that request. I will see that you come with me back to the branch. <Tsubaki Victory> Jin: ... Tsubaki: Why...? Captain, you could easily defeat me. Why are you holding back? And if you are holding back, why fight in the first place...!? Jin: You're not the one I should be fighting. Kagura: Ahh, there you are Jinny. Found you. Jin: Tch... Kagura. Tsubaki: Colonel Mutsuki... I believe you entrusted Captain Kisaragi's apprehension to me. Kagura: Did I now...? Take him in right now. Everything he's done is an act of treason against the NOL. Tsubaki: ...P-Please wait! I believe there may be reason for Captain Kisaragi's desertion. To defeat her and create a world of your own. Bang: Indeed. To fulfill my vows, I will have to go there right here and now. Only one may face Izanami, which means it is every chosen for themselves. Makoto: Tsubaki! Oh, thank goodness I found you. Tsubaki: Makoto... I see, you were one of the chosen, too. Are you headed for Izanami? To make a wish come true? Makoto: ...Well, sure I've got wishes too. But that doesn't matter now. Tsubaki, don't you think there's something weird about this world? Tsubaki: Strange? Makoto: Yeah. A few moments ago, I was in Kagutsuchi. And all of a sudden I'm in Ikaruga. Not only that... Tsubaki: ...Everything is strange in this world. Izanami, the chosen. Even me. Who am I to let the rules of this world govern me!? Makoto: Tsubaki...? Tsubaki: But I will still fight, rules or not. To change this world, I will defeat Izanami. Which is why... ...I can't have another chosen roaming in this world...! <Tsubaki Victory> Makoto: Tsubaki... you're serious. You're really going to defeat Izanami and take the Azure? Have I stumbled upon something that the NOL might find...incriminating? Hazama: Now, now, now... No need for such hostilities. In fact, I find it more unnatural that YOU are here right now, First Lieutenant. Tsubaki: What is that supposed to mean...? Hazama: You betrayed the NOL and became a traitor... Will my wish really come true? Can I recreate this world? Izanami: To your liking. Now, show me the world you wish to create. What is it you want so that you would deny the world in which you currently exist? Tsubaki: That's... (The world... That I want...) Carl: I suppose there's no point in trying to lie to you. You would find out anyway... ...I'm going to kill her. It doesn't matter who I sacrifice along the way. I'm going to change the world. Tsubaki: Then I only have one answer for you. I will not let you get to Noel! <Tsubaki Victory> Carl: Why!? Why would you get in my way!? I'm just trying to save Sis! Tsubaki: Just how you are trying to save your sister, I am going to protect my friend. Carl: You're in denial! I'm sure you have something, too, Tsubaki...a wish you want to make true, even at the expense of someone else! Tsubaki: There was a time when I wanted to change the world. Stage 6: Hibiki Kohaku

Tsubaki: Captain Kohaku? What are you doing here? Are you alone...? Hibiki: You would actually make me answer that? Judging from your manner of speech, it seems to me like you already know. Tsubaki: ...Whose orders brought you here? Don't tell me it's...Kagura? Hibiki: A funny theory. He doesn't see black and white so clearly. Even if he chose the same methods as me, he would never order someone else to do it. Tsubaki: Which means you are attempting to kill Noel on your own accord? Hibiki: Yes, I believe that that is the most effective way to build the world Lord Kagura desires. Besides... Noel Vermillion is much too dangerous to Lord Kagura right now. I'm sure you already understand, but...if you get in my way, then... Tsubaki: I don't care how utopian your world may be. If it's one without my friends, then it's one I do not wish to live in. <Tsubaki Victory> Tsubaki: Please quit this nonsense... There is no point in continuing. Tsubaki: ... Hazama: Whoa there... There's no need to look so grim. I'm not here to pick a fight with you. Tsubaki: You're implying you came with ulterior motives? Hazama: Y-Yes, well... I've picked up a little interesting bit of information. And I was debating whether or not to tell you... Tsubaki: Is that not why you're here...!? Hazama: Well, that's why I came here originally, sure... but I am reconsidering whether or not that would be wise. Would you like to hear it...? Tsubaki: I've heard it enough. It is clear to me that you've only come to mock me. Leave here at once... Otherwise, I will not let you off easily! <Tsubaki Victory> Hazama: I give up, I give up! I'll tell you, so there's no need to get so angry! You see, it has to do with Jin Kisaragi's movements... Tsubaki: Huh...? Hazama: I hear he's looking to seal away Noel Vermillion using Kushinada's Lynchpin. Now what...? Oh what to do, what to do? How troubling... I fear I'm no match for him, so going there would be meaningless... Tsubaki: Dammit...! Hazama: Ah, of course you would... Now, if one of you would just disappear, it would make my life VERY easy.

Tsubaki: Jin! Please, stop! You're not really going to seal Noel away, are you...!? Noel: Tsubaki...!? Jin: Get out of my way, Tsubaki. This is a mission I must complete myself. Tsubaki: No... Jin, there are a great many other things you could be doing. This is not the answer! Jin: I'm not going to argue right or wrong with you now. Now, hand over Noel Vermillion! Stand in my way, and I will not hesitate to slash you, either. Tsubaki: ...Noel, stand back. Noel: Y-You can't, Tsubaki...! Tsubaki: Just stand back! Noel: ...! Tsubaki: Jin... I cannot see how the path you have chosen can be just. I did not wish for us to cross swords, but I will stop you if you continue! <Tsubaki Victory> Tsubaki: K'uh... *pant pant* Jin: I will ask only once more. Stand aside, Tsubaki! Tsubaki: I won't! Jin, I'm sure you realize that what you are doing is wrong... Why do you insist on seeing it through!? If you have a reason, then please share it with me. If I can somehow help, then let me! Story Mode

A soldier of the Novus Orbis Librarium belonging to the "Fourth Thaumaturgist Squadron" spearheaded by Kagura Mutsuki. Her rank is first lieutenant. With the heirloom of the prestigious Yayoi family, the "Sealed Weapon Izayoi," in hand, she chases after the missing Jin Kisaragi.

After having talked with Rachel, Tsubaki went off on her own to investigate on what she had meant. Before she left, she went to check on Jin, running into Celica who had just tended to his wounds after his battle with Ragna. She listened to Jin's explanation of his relationship with Ragna, and his earliest memories, including the attack on the church, but they were eventually interrupted by Noel, and Tsubaki left to continue her investigation. She was soon sucked into the Embryo.

In the Embryo's version of Kagutsuchi, Tsubaki was paired with Hibiki to find Jin, who had gone missing. Her memories were altered to believe that Kagura was now the Hero of Ikaruga, and that Jin had gone AWOL. She later found Noel knocked out by Litchi's side, and started angrily asking questions before being calmed down by Litchi's manners and answers. Bang nearly assaulted her but Litchi stopped him, and allowed Tsubaki to take Noel out of the sewers and above ground. She heard rumours that Noel had actually fought the Grim Reaper.

Kagura and Hibiki left the branch, and it came under attack by Hakumen. Tsubaki took over as head of command, taking control of the soldiers and ordered them across the branch with tactical precision during the attack. She was later transported by Nine the Phantom to Ikaruga and told to defeat Izanami to claim her piece of the Azure She found Makoto and began to fight her against her friend's wishes, only just being repelled – her memories of being controlled before confusing who is friend and foe. Alone, and scared of her own memories, Tsubaki wandered around Ikaruga beating herself up over what she had done. Taokaka saw her, and decided to cheer her up, although she got carried away and felt her breasts, deciding afterwards to call her “average” person – she told Tsubaki that she fights for her friends and justice before leaving to find the “bad guys”. This left the soldier wondering what she is really fighting for.

Tsubaki was later ordered by Kokonoe to detain Ragna. She found him in a distorted version of Wadatsumi and battled him after explaining her dream for a world which Jin can help build. Her dream was rejected and taken by Ragna's Soul Eater. She and Hakumen later responded to Kokonoe's call, meeting with her and then being taken above the Embryo, and being deployed within it – there, she was split up from the others in her group (namely Ragna, Kagura, Ex Machina: Minerva, Noel, Rachel, and Jin), finding herself in Yabiko with Hakumen. They were met by an illusion of Izanami inviting them to find her and the Corpus Sepulcro: Requiem – if they did not, the world would be atomized. Hakumen reminded her much of Jin during her school days, and they headed out to Kagutsuchi's Altar to find Requiem, finding data of Relius and Ignis Clover. She watched Hakumen battle the data until it disappeared. She felt Makoto dissolve into seithr, crying out for her afterwards.

In due time, Tsubaki and Hakumen found the Amaterasu Unit being warred over by both Jubei and Nu, assisting the beastkin in the fight, using the Izayoi form to do so. Ragna, Jin, and Noel came to assist them, and Tsubaki watched as Ragna defeated both Nu and Hakumen, and then was ordered to look after the Murakumo Unit. Terumi forced Nu to go insane, and she lashed out at Tsubaki, but the fatal blow was blocked by Hakumen, who defeated her soon afterwards. Tsubaki was forced to watch as Hakumen's soul was shattered by Terumi and his body was taken over – the Yayoi heir became one of the few people to watch the resurrection of Susano'o, a true God. She attempted to fight him, but was easily defeated. Tsubaki stayed behind to watch over Jubei and Nu while Ragna, Jin, and Trinity embarked outside the Embryo to rescue Noel and stop Susano'o. Her dream was properly taken by Ragna, however, even though she did resist.

In the new world created by Ragna, Tsubaki returned as a member of the NOL's infantry squad. She visited Noel and Lambda at a church with Makoto, having dinner with them and telling Noel that she has an open invitation to return back to the NOL at any time.
