A travelling performer and manager of a troupe consisting of orphans of war that he has adopted, Amane roams the globe. Around 2190, Amane was hired by a mercenary squad's drill sergeant as an instructor for their "troops" on integrating new combat moves into their arsenal. Amane misunderstood, thinking that they were a "troupe" who needed to be taught new dancing styles. For three days and nights, he made the troops dance traditional Oriental dances before realising his mistake and vanishing. Bullet, then a young girl, never forgot the incident, swearing revenge.

Chrono Phantasma

The beautiful leader of a dance troupe, "Amane." From a young age he wished to grasp the true essence of dance, and obtained the "dance" of battle. He prefers unparallelled "pretty boys," and after hearing rumors of one such young vigilante, he journeyed all the way to the Ikaruga Region to scount him.

Stage 3: Bang Shishigami

Bang: You there, strange person... Halt, I say! Amane: ...Huh? Are you...talking to me? Bang: That's right! I'm talking to you! What kind of attire is that for a man to wear around...!? It screams "frail" and "weak"! I can hardly believe my eyes... What has happened to the spirit of Ikaruga in my absence?! Amane: Umm...I'm not really sure what you're talking about... But, my name is Amane Nishiki! I travel from city to city, representing our dance troupe. I had a little errand to take care of here in Ikaruga... Bang: Ooooh, a dancing troupe, are you? For here I was, thinking I've found such a lovely lady, only to discover it was a...a...man... Oh, the trickery! Amane: Hm? Did you say something? Bang: Nooooo, I certainly have not! Never you mind! It is a crime for a man to look so...so...so beautifully feminine! I shall smack some guts and conviction back into you as a representative of Ikarugan masculinity! Amane: Whoa whoa, don't you think you're being just a little prejudiced? However...if you insist, I suppose I'll have to teach this so-called "man" a good lesson. <Amane Victory> Bang: Guah... Im...impressive... *Thud* Amane: You're kidding, right? Closing the curtains already? Although I must give credit where credit's due... You've danced a fine dance. I've seen your spirit. Why...aren't you charming?

Stage 6: Jin Kisaragi

Jin: ...What the hell do you want with me? Amane: Mmm...Do you by any chance practice martial arts...? And, that's the Library's uniform, isn't it? Please excuse me. Jin: ...You're wasting my time... Now get out of my way. Amane: Now that's not very nice... Heh heh. Say, would you be interested in joining our dance troupe? You should really quit the Library because gosh...you're letting such great assets go to waste. Jin: What part of "get out of my way" was not clear to you? Amane: Oh, so you're gonna dance for me? Or, with me, rather... Well, that's certainly more than I bargained for. <Amane Victory> Jin: Guah...Why...why you...! Amane: That was quite something! *Chuckle* Boy you really know how to make me WANT you.

Stage 7: Carl Clover

Amane: Ooooooh! I've finally found you! Carl: Wh-wha–?! Who are you?! Amane: Ah, pardon me, I seem to have gotten a little ahead of myself. You were just... so much better than I had expected. You're Carl Clover...yes? Carl: Umm, yes, but...who might you be? Amane: I'm Amane Nishiki. From the eastern coast to the western shore, I've traveled to every city that lies in between. Trying to spread the art of dance and expression, wherever I go. I want the world to understand this fine art! Carl: ...I think I got the general picture. What exactly do you want with ME? Amane: Become mine! Carl: Uh, we should be on our way, sis. Now that I think about it, I'm actually pretty hungry. What do you feel like today? Amane: Whoooooa, wait, wait! Sorry, it's all my fault. I apologize; I just got a little excited. Please allow me to start over...Carl, it would be an honor if you joined our troupe. Let us master the fine art of "dance" together, shall we?! Carl: ...I am quite flattered by your offer, but I'm afraid I must decline. You see, I have important matters to take care of. Amane: Mmm, is that your final answer? How unfortunate. Because you see, "giving up" is not the way of Amane Nishiki, so mark my words, I will make you say yes. Carl: You're really starting to irritate me! <Amane Victory> Carl: Kuh... Sis, he's...actually really strong... Let's back off! Amane: Carl, wait! I'm not giving up on you!

Stage 8: Rachel Alucard

Amane: After all that time tracking Carl down...I manage to lose him... Rachel: You there, wait. Amane: My, what a pretty little girl you are...can I help you? Rachel: Answer me... Who are you? Amane: Uh, you're asking for my name? That would be Amane Nishiki. I'm with a dancing troupe, and I want to– Rachel: That's not what I asked... Amane: Ooooh, scary. Please don't glare at me with those "eyes" of yours. Besides, I'm not sure how else I can answer the question... I am who I am. Rachel: Very well, perhaps you would do better if I rephrased: Why are you in the Federation's hierarchical city of Ikaruga? Amane: Sheesh, you're full of questions, aren't you? I was just here to recruit the infamous vigilante, Carl. Rumor has it he's here in Ikaruga, so here I am. Rachel: ... Amane: Right, one more thing, little vampire girl. Those enslaving red eyes have no effect on me. Rachel: You don't mean to tell me...you're "Uzume"? This is getting quite interesting. Did you say your name was "Amane?" May I have this dance? Amane: "Uzume"? ...I'm not really sure what you mean, but if you want to see me dance, I'll have you be my partner. Rachel: I do hope you can keep up with my waltz.

BUSHIN

AD2200/02/03 Rachel: Hehehe, I suppose you have a little bit of skill. That was quite entertaining. Amane: Um, I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to say... Thank you...? I have to admit, though, you're not bad yourself, little vampire. Rachel: That's "Miss Rachel Alucard" to you. Do remember it. Amane: Miss Rachel, huh? As a "thank you" for your time, how about I tell you what it is I'm after? Rachel: I've honestly lost interest, but I suppose I should hear you out anyway. Amane: You're a difficult little girl, aren't cha? Rachel: Shut up and tell me. Amane: A stage. Rachel: Stage...? Amane: That's right, the ultimate stage of fighters! The perfect performance, and the perfect fight are one and the same. To master one, one must master the other. Amane: Which is why I want create the stage for the ultimate battle! But you see, I'm not talking about just anyone. I'm only interested in those strong enough to "change" the world. The finest stage with the ultimate "dancers"... Amane: On this stage, I want to dance...and show the world what I can do!

Story Mode

Chrono Phantasma

In the February of 2200AD, Amane took his troupe to the 7th Hierarchical City of Kazamotsu where he announced that they were to have a vacation from their hard-work. As soon as the group left, Amane went to find Carl Clover. Before he could proceed to scout for the boy, two girls from the troupe came to him, telling him that they saw the Novus Orbis Librarium drag Iron Tager away. Excited, he went the way that they were taken.

Some time later, Amane found Ragna the Bloodedge in Varubtuke Source, but was ignored by the Grim Reaper. He got his attention and then told him that he had all the potential to become the leading man of a play, likely Amane's way of telling Ragna that he had the potential to become something great. They began to battle, and Amane won, taking his leave after having witnessed Ragna's strength. He then resumed his pursuit of Carl.

Amane did eventually find Carl at the Lakeside Port, although the boy had just had a troubling confrontation with his father, Relius Clover. Amane asked for his time, but the boy was not in the mood to talk. He asked the boy to become his, but was rejected. He later watched with Rachel as Ragna battled against Kagura Mutsuki and lost. Amane reminded the vampire to not interfere too much with the world's events. At some point he came across Valkenhayn R. Hellsing and told him Rachel's location, although he did reprimand the vampire for her extreme methods and lamented over the loss of most of her power as an Onlooker.

Sector Seven

In the 8th Hierarchical City of Wadatsumi, Amane was approached by Bang Shishigami, who believed that the troupe leader was a spy for the NOL. Amane gave the idea some fancy, which led to the two of them fighting. There was no victor as both came to respect one another's fighting styles during the match, leading to a “manly” friendship which had been forged in battle. Bang knew of Carl but could not tell Amane where he was, so Amane left, cryptically telling the ninja that there was doubt in him and that he should visit his roots to solve the problem.

As Amane left, he bumped into Bullet, who recognized from years before but did not think they could be the same person. She told him the story of her unit's tortured dancing and at the end of it, Amane confessed it was actually him who put them through that. Bullet then attacked him, but the battle was a stalemate. He told her to follow her instincts and then left her be, laughing merrily.

Central Fiction

From a young age, Amane travelled to grasp the true essense of dance. He realized that the origins of "dance" lie the ideals of the "martial arts," and obtained the "dance" of battle. He prefers unparallelled "pretty boys," and journeyed to gather a number of "pretty boys" and establish positions for them. Concerned about the fate of the world, he decides to Observe it.

Amane: My, oh my... whew... Mmm. Ragna: Why the hell're you starin' at me? You got a problem? Amane: Ah, excuse me... I heard of your existence, but seeing you in the flesh it's... just...! Ragna: I've got NO idea what you're talkin' about. Amane: She's the reason you're here... but from the looks of it, you haven't even seen her yet. Ragna: ...If you're done talking, I'll be on my way. Amane: Let's not get ahead of ourselves, now shall we? It must be fate that brought us together. Why not show me what you're made of? Ragna: You were just another bounty hunter... like the rest of'em? Well, why didn't you SAY SO!? <Amane Victory> Ragna: Guah...! Dammit, you're tough... Nothing like you look...! Amane: I see... Now, I understand the circumstances quite well. Ragna: What do you want with me...? Amane: What do I...? Haha, nothing, really. The rest is entirely up to you. I've done my work here. Ragna: ...? Amane: Good luck unraveling this knot... Buh-bye! Ragna: H-Hey, wait a sec...! What the hell was that about?

Taokaka: *sniff sniff sniff* Ahh, this smells delicious, meow! Is the food this way!? Amane: ... Taokaka: *sniff sniff* Hmm... this person smells weird, meow. But not like bad person... Amane: This IS a surprise. You understand me? But it hardly feels good being sniffed. Why don't you call it a day. Hmm? Taokaka: Hmm... why do you resist!? Meow! Amane: Mm? Taokaka: You must be... hiding some delicious food, meow! Give one to Tao! Give one to Tao! Amane: Wha...? Don't be silly, I don't have any-- Taokaka: Silence! Now, get in Tao's tummy, meow! Amane: Oh boy... <Amane Victory> Amane: Do you understand now? I don't have any food... nada. Taokaka: Tao's mistake... So sad, meow. Amane: But I love the way you move... What do you say? How would you like to be our opening act at the next performance? Taokaka: Opening act...? Is there yummy stuff? Amane: Well, no technically... There is no food, but instead you'll get a taste of the stage! Taokaka: No food, meow... then I don't want it. Amane: *Sigh* Hey, whatever you do, stay away from the "bad" smell!

Stage 7: Rachel Alucard

Rachel: Took you long enough. I thought you were going to stand me up. Amane: Your condition has worsened... So much so you can't even hear the summons. Rachel: Perhaps... Amane: So, tell me why I'm here. Rachel: Paint the whole picture of the Embryo for me... I know you've seen everything. Amane: That's the one thing I cannot do. You know my stance... I will not get involved. We've discussed this... Rachel: ...How sad. I cannot seem to remember. But I'm afraid I no longer have the luxury to stand by idly! After all, my time here is quite limited. <Amane Victory> Amane: I still cannot understand you. Why go out of your way to die sooner? Rachel: True... it was by my own will that I intervened... But I could not do what you did... ...Which may be why I deserved what was coming. Nevertheless, I must follow what I believe. That much, I can say is the same between us. No matter how foolish the act... I will fight until the very end. That is what I've decided. Amane: ...Then there is nothing more I can tell you. Amane: So, what do you want with me? Nine: Don't be dull... You're the one who has business with me. You're on the outside. I suggest you keep it that way. Amane: And I return those words right back to you. Nine: ...What!? Amane: This isn't your world... If you want to play around, go do it back in your own. Nine: ...! How dare you--!? You should've thought of that before disturbing my world! It seems like your policy not to intervene... Why don't we let the gods know your intent! Amane: My, oh my... I had a feeling this would happen... It looks like you won't back off from this... Nine: Of course... The two of us will never get along. <Amane Victory> Amane: I see now... I've fallen right into your trap. Nine: That's right. Time to face the music. You've already intervened in this world... through me. But there's no need to be down. Amane: And speak of the devil... Celica: ...? Hello. Umm, who are you? Amane: Who am I? I'm just an innocent passerby. But I may ask you the same. What are you doing here? It looks to me like you don't have much time left... Minerva: ...! Amane: Whoooah now! Celica: M-Minerva, what's gotten into you? Whaaat!? You're going to fight this person? Are you serious? Amane: My, oh my... You've given me no choice. <Amane Victory> Celica: Owww... Hmm. Minerva: ... Amane: I see now... You clever little thing. Celica: Huh? What's that supposed to mean? Amane: The stronger your ties are to me, you can artificially extend your "time limit." You're forcing me to Observe you, after all... Though, I don't know how much time I can actually buy. You should really thank that little puppet. Celica: ...? Thanks, Minerva! Amane: Now, the next presence is coming from over yonder.

Stage 6: Naoto Kurogane

Naoto: ...Sheesh, I've got no leads and no idea what the hell's going on. What am I supposed to do...? Amane: My, oh my... You've sure come to an odd place. Naoto: Huh? You supposed to be one of those "chosen" or whatever? How many more of you guys are there--!? Wait a second... You're different... This is the same feeling I had when I fought that Rachel girl... Hey, I've got a question. You know someone named Raquel Alucard? I'm searching for her. Amane: No clue... at the very least, she's not "here." Don't take this the wrong way, but... You should stop this pointless intervention, and go back to your own world. Naoto: ...You know something. Thanks for the warning, but I made a promise to her. That I'd find her no matter what. Besides... I'm the kinda guy who never gives up before trying. If you know something, you better start talkin'. Amane: Oh, what a character you are... <Amane Victory> Naoto: Dammit...! I won't deny my job is to apparently sit around and Observe things, but... I really have no business with you. Now, if you don't mind... Azrael: Heh heh heh... I take back what I said earlier. And I'm sorry I insulted you. Didn't expect to find an Observer down here. The vampire was in no condition to fight, but you... I've been longing to fight an Observer at their peak. Now. Izanami: Very well. Perhaps your lack of desire is itself your true wish. It makes sense that you were chosen. Amane: ... Maybe you're right. But that's why I'm here... ...To make sure of it. <Amane Victory> Izanami: You awe me, Observer. Izanami: That we would be evenly matched. Amane: That's enough... I'm giving this all I've got. Amane: I can never really get used to this. Izanami: Still, I was stunned to find you walk up to the stage. Izanami: What exactly do you want? Amane: I told you... To make sure of something... If that man didn't create these, then perhaps mankind would not have come so close to god. We would have been walking down an honest path... Amane: Once again, agreed... But that history is now distorted... There's nothing we can do. Nine: ...Hmph. You've finally decided to step onto the stage? Amane: Who knows? I doubt I'll be able to live up to your expectations, but... I'm slightly more motivated now. I say it's time you've exited stage right. <Amane Victory> Nine: Heh, I see... The true power of an Observer... It's rather irritating that there's not even a shadow of your former self. I mean, truly... You guys would always look down on us. Amane: I'm sorry, but I don't have time to listen to losers whine. I told you, I'm busy. Nine: Fine...then why don't you show me. Show me what you can do in this dark and future-less world. Izayoi: You're...this presence. Don't tell me, you're an Observer, like Rachel Alucard? Amane: Oh, you can tell...? The Zero-Type Izayoi is more than a decoration or is this the Power of Order? Izayoi: ...I will not answer that. Are you one of the chosen? Amane: So it seems...not by choice, but apparently I am. Izayoi: Then the reason you're here is to defeat the other chosen and make your wish real...? Amane: Yes and no. At the very least I can tell you the reason I'm RIGHT here has...nothing to do with wishes. Izayoi: ...Regardless, you do not seem to be my ally. Amane: That question is really difficult to answer right now, but... Since you already seem up for it, why don't you show me your dance. <Amane Victory> Izayoi: Gah... strong. Amane: Now, then... What is it you're observing...? Can I leave this little girl to you? Kokonoe: So you noticed...Observer. Amane: It seems to me you like to do your share of looking, too. Amane: That doesn't seem very nice. Hakumen: Why do you stand in my way? Amane: You're barking up the wrong tree if this is about Tsubaki. Besides...she couldn't have killed Noel Vermillion, anyway. Not to mention, I was actually trying to save you, too, Jin...not just her. Hakumen: ...Absurd. Then it seems I must start with you, after all... Observer. Amane: Let me remind you, I have no intention of getting slain so easily. <Amane Victory> Hakumen: Tch... Can you not be killed!? You and Noel Vermillion... Amane: Don't raise me so high. I'm not immortal. In fact, you're more worthy of that name than me... Hakumen: More nonsense... I have a question for you. Amane: What's that? Hakumen: Why did you heed my call? Amane: Yes, well... Rachel: Uninvited guests always seem to pick the wrong moments. Amane: There's no need to be so cruel. I've come here to talk, I promise. Rachel: After all that campaigning to become an Observer, you have the nerve to come speak with me? ...Interesting. I suppose I will grant you this one exception. However... Amane: ...Hm? Rachel: I must teach you discipline and consequences before I lend you my ear. Given what you're asking, I believe that's more than fair. Amane: I can't really argue with that. But... I'm a performer. I'll have to defend myself. Especially around the face. <Amane Victory> Amane: Owww... Are you satisfied yet? Rachel: ...Not in the slightest, but I suppose that will suffice. But as you already know. I hardly have any strength left. Amane: I'm not asking you to fight my war for me... I was just hoping you might be able to offer someone shelter. The Successor to the Azure... Rather, the Sword of the Godslayer. Can you hide her here, in your castle? Rachel: ...You need Noel? What on earth are you thinking? Amane: In this undefined world known as the Embryo... That girl's power was scattered. I'm sure there's a reason for that, too, but... The bridge that connects the gods' world to the Boundary. Amane: Not exactly, but I have an idea... It's got a scary-looking gatekeeper in front of it... So one can only assume... Story Mode

As with many others, Amane was absorbed into the Embryo, although his memories remained unaffected, and he became one of the chosen. He found Rachel in the Kagutsuchi Port in a distorted reality of the 13th Hierarchical City of Kagutsuchi, and began to warn her about how much she was intervening in the world – but he did grant her his blessing to continue forward as “everyone is an actor once on stage”.

Mimicking Rachel's teleportation, Amane used sorcery to transfer Ragna the Bloodedge to his location next to the Kushinada's Lynchpin. He offered Ragna to join his troupe, a metaphor for Observation. Although he was turned down, Amane listened to the Grim Reaper's plan to create a new possibility using Soul Eater to take the desires of the chosen. Gleefully, Amane told him that he would watch what he could do, teleporting Ragna back to Wadatsumi.

Valkenhayn R. Hellsing found Amane at the Altar atop Kagutsuchi. The lycanthrope told him about Rachel's disappearing state and that he was going to kill the Onlooker to save his young mistress. They battled, but Amane revealed that because Valkenhayn exists outside of Logic, there is no way that he can kill an Onlooker and change the world. Amane further asked him where his loyalties truly lie – with his promise to Clavis Alucard to protect Rachel, or to the girl herself. He answered the latter, so the Onlooker told him of Ragna's plan and how that would save the young vampire from disappearing. He later came to the battle between Es and Makoto Nanaya, seeing the latter off as she dissolved into seithr and commending her on how brilliantly she fought. Es left to pursue Naoto Kurogane afterwards, and Amane allowed her.

A final conversation with the Man of the Azure

Amane met Es at the Gate, and told her to rest easy as she dissolved into seithr, believing that she had made the right choice to believe in others, not something as grandiose as possibilities. He was the last of the chosen to dissolve into seithr, and met Ragna in his final moments, calling his dance “majestic.”

Amane soon dissolved into seithr and was reborn in the new world created by Ragna, wandering the world with his troupe.
