As long as this "hope" remains in my heart... I can never give up... I shall find "you." I promise.

Rachel Alucard is a vampire, former Onlooker, and head of the Alucard clan of vampires. She is the daughter of Clavis Alucard, and watches over the world from the Alucard Castle alongside her butler Valkenhayn R. Hellsing. Rachel wields the Sankishin: Tsukuyomi Unit, and has no life-force value. She is constantly followed by her familiars - Nago and Gii.

She is one of the original twelve characters who debuted in BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger.

Appearance

A small, pale vampire with large red eyes and long blonde hair tied into twin tails with black ribbons, Rachel looks much younger than she actually is. She is almost exclusively seen in her large, backless black dress that stops just below her knees. The dress is intricate with outer bell shape, with two parts to it: the first of which stops on her hips and sits above the other part, which ends in white frills and has small red crosses near the front base of the lower dress. On this second part are large red wings which can extend and contract according to Rachel's will. The sleeves of the dress also end in white frills, and have red crosses adorning each sleeve. At her collar is a ruffled white cravat which is obscured by a large red ribbon. On top of her dress she wears a small cape that is decorated with the same red crosses that cover her sleeves. Under her dress she wears white tights and large, black, heel-less platform boots that come up to her knees, and a red ribbon tied on her right ankle.

When using Tsukuyomi, her eyes turn amber. She is always seen carrying Nago around in an umbrella form. Because of the ribbons that hold her hair, she is sometimes compared to a rabbit.

Personality

Contrary to her elegant and graceful appearance, Rachel is often overbearing and rude - delivering rapid, yet complex insults. She is righteously proud at times, boasting of her formidable power before she sacrificed it, and is known to bully Gii relentlessly, using him as a conductor for her infrequent bursts of rage. She enjoys teasing Ragna the Bloodedge and Hakumen, but is known to greatly respect the both of them. Additionally, she is heavily implied to be in love with Ragna.

Despite these characteristics, Rachel is undeniably wise, having knowledge and wisdom that surpasses most of the cast. She put her life in great danger to ensure that the time-loops would be broken and that Doomsday would be stopped. The people she treats with respect are often the ones who have earned it, such as Celica A. Mercury, Valkenhayn, Jubei, Tsubaki Yayoi, and eventually, Noel Vermillion. Although she may come off as domineering at times, Rachel cares far more greatly for the world and its people than she will let anyone know.

Even though she is a vampire, Rachel detests partaking in the consumption of blood, and will only do so if absolutely necessary. However, she does enjoy drinking tea and sitting her rose-filled garden with Nago, Gii, and Valkenhayn as company.

Biography

Scarlet Rose

After the events of the Dark War, Rachel slept to gain knowledge and regain lost power. She slept for over 50 years until she finally awoke. She called for Valkenhayn, noting that he had grown older since the last time she had seen him. She apologized for giving the lycanthrope a difficult life, but took up his offer to a cup of tea. Valkenhayn dressed her and told her that Relius Clover had been seen again and that Jubei was currently hunting him down.

Hearing that three children had been adopted by Celica A. Mercury, Rachel travelled to the woods nearby the nun's church. There she watched as Celica and the children searched for strawberries. She attracted the attention of the young girl, Saya, but she could only feel Rachel's presence. Once they had left, Rachel whispered her wonders towards what conclusion Ragna the Bloodedge will bring to her; she then left the woods.

Endless Waltz

Rachel recalled the first time she met properly met Ragna and the events that unfolded that night in the first timeline.

She left for Celica A. Mercury's church after briefly saying farewell to Valkenhayn. Arriving at the church a few seconds later, she was met with a fierce rain and the destroyed church that was set ablaze by Terumi. Near her feet laid a young, dying Ragna, his arm cut off by Jin. Rachel quickly cast a spell that swallowed Ragna whole, before he had time to scream; inside the hole, Rachel drank his blood, stopping the bleeding and allowing Ragna time to live. Ragna scanned the room and touched the Azure Grimoire that lay in the corner. Rachel soon departed after comments by Nago and Gii, leaving Ragna alive and transported back to the ruins of the church, having saved his life.

Variable Heart

Witnessing that Ragna, Mai Natsume, Kajun Faycott, Taro Sasagae, Shiori Kirihito, and Bell were surrounded by the Zero Squadron and Meifang Lapislazuli, Rachel performed a massive teleport, evacuating the group out of their predicament. Ragna's behaviour started to annoy her, so Rachel ordered Valkenhayn to throw him away to any location. She then began talking with Jubei about Bell, confirming that Mai is not an Observer and that she looks forward to how all their fates unravel. [1]

Calamity Trigger

Rachel teleported to the Hanging Gardens of the 13th Hierarchical City of Kagutsuchi alongside Nago and Gii. Having briefly contemplated the past and the last time she visited the area, Rachel teleported in front of Ragna, startling the young man. Typical of her nature, she began to easily belittle the Grim Reaper, taking great delight in his reactions; although this was short lived as she directed him toward his objective. Turning, she greeted Hakumen, although the conversation served as little more than trivial banter between the two as Rachel chastised humanity’s lust for the Azure. As Hakumen left, the young vampire turned her attention elsewhere.

Later in the evening, Rachel teleported beside a melee between Ragna and Valkenhayn. Brandishing more insults to Ragna before ordering Nago and Gii to be silent, Rachel ordered Valkenhayn give her an explanation for his appearance in the city, finding herself to be satisfied at his response. Rachel then teleported the group back to the Alucard Castle. There, Rachel and Ragna began to fight, although the former hardly exhausted any energy doing so, and resigned herself to a cup of tea brewed by her servant. She then began to criticise Ragna, calling him weak, but congratulating him on being “marginally” stronger than before. However, she begged him to not give up before teleporting him in front of Kagutsuchi’s Novs Orbis Librarium branch. Watching from afar, Rachel teleported down to the branch in front of Noel Vermillion, preventing her from advancing any further.

Noel was not spared from Rachel’s razor sharp tongue as the vampire easily made a verbal assault on her person, and ultimately stopped her from advancing.

Once Noel had saved Ragna from Nu-13, Rachel teleported to the basement of the NOL branch where the cauldron lay. She told Ragna about Noel’s origins, and how she is now the Eye of the Azure. After explaining that Noel will inherit the true Azure, which is stronger than Ragna’s, Rachel confessed that she cannot foretell what happen next, but also congratulated the young man on “performing brilliantly”. She teleported atop of Kagutsuchi, and activated the Tsukuyomi to prevent the destruction of the city that would be caused by a blast by Take-Mikazuchi. Unfortunately, Rachel arrived too late to the basement as Noel had already accidentally Observed Terumi, causing his existence in the world to become true. Rachel prevented Ragna from attacking the monstrous being and contacted Kokonoe shortly after he had left, asking if she had bore witness to what had happened.

Trigger Shift

Instead of teleporting them outside the ruins of the NOL branch, Rachel swiftly departed from the cauldron, opting to return home instead. She decided to visit the same wooden prison that held Terumi for the short time before he was released. Rachel questioned whether the action of Nine to release Terumi was wise to make. Valkenhayn appeared next to her and the two talked until a buzz rang, signalling that Takamagahara wanted to speak to the young vampire.

Continuum Shift

Upon conversing with Takamagahara, Rachel lost her ability to Observe. She returned to the castle with significantly less power, dreading the return of Terumi. She thought about the movement in Takamagahara and was surprised that Terumi returned so soon. When Valkenhayn asks what she intends to do, Rachel replied with "Nothing." Before going to depart again, she asked him if he'll do her a favor. He agreed and she left, heading to Sector Seven's confinement chamber. The room radiated magic and in the center of it all, Hakumen sat silently. Rachel demanded he gets up immediately and he complied once she threatened to fill him with "animals' leavings and spoiled food". She informed him of the impending threat and the 'continuum shift', vaguely mentioning that things have already changed. The two agreed to meet in Kagutsuchi.

Rachel went on ahead and entered a restaurant while waiting. Inside, Ragna and Platinum the Trinity were eating lunch together. Rachel quietly stormed out, furious that Ragna was with someone. She waited outside for a little longer and was questioned by Nago as to why she didn't just transport Hakumen out with her. She replied by claiming that she doesn't owe Hakumen anything and that it would take a lot of energy to transport him out with her. In actuality, it was the weakening of her powers that made it hard to do so. Valkenhayn appeared before her, alerting her that Jin was at the castle, as per her request. As Hakumen still had yet to return, she agreed to go.

Rachel laughed at Jin for his weaknesses and over-dependency of Ragna. Striking a nerve, Jin became infuriated by her insults and ignored his injuries long enough to fight her. She easily won and summoned Vakenhayn to dispose of him. Secretly, Rachel had Valkenhayn limit the Mucro Algesco: Yukianesa's influence on Jin. Later on, she transported Jin to the NOL branch in Kagutsuchi without alerting him to the limit on his Nox Nyctores.

After waiting at the castle, Rachel went to meet Hakumen. He was surprised by something he saw and demands answers. She replied by telling him that she's not sure what he's talking about, and he comments on Takamagahara moving again. Terumi's return had him worried, but his concerns are cut short by Lambda-11's arrival. Rachel teases and taunts the operator behind the Prime Field Device, causing Kokonoe to order the death of the vampire. Sending Hakumen to go pay Terumi a visit, Rachel dealt with Lambda-11 herself.

After winning the brief fight, Rachel teleported to the NOL branch, meeting Litchi Faye-Ling who had joined the NOL. Rachel chastised Litchi's decision, claiming that her hands have been 'dirtied'. She asked about Hazama and the information that he passed onto Litchi, although the latter refused to reply, leading to a short brawl. Once Rachel won, she gave Litchi some words of advice and departed.

On her way, Rachel was stopped by an obscure, mysterious feeling. She felt herself being trapped in a binding circle. Izanami, Nine the Phantom, and Relius Clover appeared before her. Trying as hard as she could, Rachel was unable to free herself and was trapped. She was saved by Ragna after he defeated Terumi not long afterwards. In typical form, Rachel refused to thank him, although she was grateful for the rescue. She told him that the only way to save Noel from herself as Mu-12 is to kill her. Ragna, however, managed to save her without anyone dying, but lost his left arm in the process. The Imperator appeared and threatened Rachel.

At the end, Rachel was seen with Hakumen. He told her that she and Jubei have grown soft and weak, walking away in frustration. Rachel wished for Ragna to be strong, brave and never give up, no matter what the altered future may hold.

Chrono Phantasma

A month after the Continuum Shift, Rachel found Ragna near the charred site of Celica’s old church, while watching on from the skies. She descended down and talked to him for the first time since the end of the phenomenon event, but her words ignited the two into a fight that was easily won by the young vampire. She was caught off guard by his question about Kushinada’s Lynchpin and confessed that she knows little about it - although she told Ragna everything she knows about it, and further divulged into her information on Hades Izanami; the very being who appeared before them.

Phantom’s gravity seed brought Rachel, Nago, and Gii to their knees in front of the Imperator. She helplessly watched as Izanami easily subdued the Grim Reaper, but was freed once she left. Rachel struggled to get to her knees and greeted Taokaka as she came to meet them, later finding and greeting Torakaka. The vampire remembered that the old Kaka village lay nearby and asked that Ragna be taken there, but not before warning Ragna that the scars caused by magic can transcend time and space, meaning that he will be affected no matter what phenomena may occur. She promptly teleported away.

The destination for the teleportation was alongside Hakumen and she invited him for tea. The decline hardly affected the situation as the two discussed the identity of Phantom and how to deal with her. Both of them cast aside their vanity, admitting that the combination of Phantom with her comrades would make her a formidable threat, even for Jubei and themselves. With this, Rachel suggested a plan to follow.

Ragna’s behaviour had earned Rachel’s scolding as she teleported near him to remind him that his attitude towards innocents was nothing short of disgusting. She quickly teleported away from him before he could apologize. Watching above as Ragna was beaten by Kagura Mustuki, Rachel and Amane Nishiki began to talk about the people below them. He warned her about getting too involved before assuming his pursuit of Carl Clover. She would later teleport to the basement of the 5th Hierarchical City of Ibukido’s NOL branch.

Finally, Rachel and Celica were reintroduced. She insulted Ragna as he lay incarcerated in the nearby cell. Noel soon joined them and Rachel began explaining “The World” and Chrono Phantasma to the two girls. The story went on as she accepted all questions until it ended on a sad note. Rachel asked that Kokonoe improve her eavesdropping before promptly teleporting away. She would join the main group for dinner, criticizing Ragna for his lack of table etiquette and complimenting Hibiki Kohaku for his exceptional cooking skills while also trusting his decision for what tea to prepare for her. Kagura introduced himself to Rachel, his flattery earning her liking.

When Noel created The Realm Rachel entered and began to tutor her on how to manage the Power of the Eye and on how the space was even born. When was summoned by Noel’s consciousness, Rachel asked her if she could accept herself with the answer leaving Rachel more than content. She asked that Noel accept her Azure; however, the two were interrupted by Hazama, who had managed to enter The Realm thanks to a hole left by Rachel once she had entered the area. She was left behind when Terumi took her elsewhere in The Realm, but managed to leave and bring Noel’s consciousness back to the normal world.

The Battle of Ragna the Bloodedge came around the following day and Rachel watched contently, placing actual bets with Celica on who would win each round. She complemented Kagura on his ability to pull together such an event and placed a bet on Bullet winning the next match. She wouldn’t anticipate that Azrael would be her replacement opponent. She prevented Kagura from switching in with Ragna during his beating by the Genocider and threw Gii in front of Azrael’s aimed fist towards Celica. Rachel silently congratulated Ragna on his ability to control the Azure Grimoire and prevent it from eroding his soul any further. In the medical bay, Celica thanked Rachel for stopping Azrael’s assault on her, but the vampire’s sharp tongue remained straight and true. The revelation from Ragna that he would stop using the Azure Grimoire caused her to invite them to the cauldron in Ibukido as long as they brought Noel with them.

At the cauldron, Ragna, Celica, and Noel arrived. Rachel placed additional protections on Noel to prevent more interference with her conscious from the nearby caskets, explaining that their thoughts were interfering with Noel’s thoughts. Pleased with Noel’s dedication, Rachel told Ragna that he was to be sent back in time to the first timeline so that he could solidify the timeline; although Noel’s Observation would be put at its pace and Celica’s memory would be strained. Finally, Rachel placed the Tsukuyomi Unit upon him so that he could safely arrive in the past. They succeeded in sending him back, but Rachel lost her status as an Observer, instead becoming an Onlooker without any magical power. This event became known as the Time for Decision, an important event that cost Rachel the majority of her remaining power.

A few hours later, Ragna returned from his journey to the past, his memory scrambled. Rachel accepted his thanks for sending him back, but Rachel soon realized how great a sacrifice she had made. Amane arrived a short while later as he had told Valkenhayn about Rachel’s location, leaving once the latter man had arrived. She thought kindly of Amane’s guidance and asked that Valkenhayn escort her back to the Castle.

Intruding in Kagura’s office, she and Valkenhayn introduced themselves while also offering advice for the group to follow. Rachel reminded them all that Tenjo Amanohokosaka had intended to use the Lynchpin as a last resort method in a time when Celica wasn’t around - arguing that another method is possible with the Nox Nyctores - Phoenix: Rettenjou. When the main group had left, Kokonoe told Rachel and Kagura that Izanami’s intervention has stopped with Rachel further confirming that the Takamagahara System had been demolished. She remained in the room even once Izayoi and Jin had entered.

Rachel directed Jin and Hakumen to cut the base of the Monolith - they succeeded. She further ordered Valkenhayn to assist Bang Shishigami with his battle against Relius. She soon ordered that Bang hammer Rettenjou into the Lynchpin - a plan possible thanks to Tager teleporting both parties above the Monolith - which subsequently fell into the tower. Rachel’s final orders were towards Ragna, asking that he activate the Azure Grimoire and confront the Take-Mikazuchi. Amaterasu was summoned in the world thanks to Doomsday, but Rachel prevented any damage being done upon it by using the Tsukuyomi; leaving both the Tsukuyomi and the Embryo floating above the ruins of Ibukido. Izanami and Rachel discussed their ideals above the sky, with Rachel telling her that she would give life to the former Imperator, while the latter wished to give her death.

Rachel caught Tsubaki Yayoi punching a wall by her lonesome and gave her some advice. She asked that if she was to find Ragna that she should kill him. Should Tsubaki fail and Ragna expire of his own accord, Rachel implored that Tsubaki kill her with the Immortal Breaker in order to eradicate the evil within Ragna.

Powers and Techniques

As a vampire, Rachel possesses some of their signature abilities, such as being able to regenerate most wounds inflicted upon her and the ability to turn humans into her kind. Her Drive is Silpheed, which allows her complete control of the wind, being able to conjure slight breezes to deadly storms and whirlwinds. Her drive is further amplified by both her mastery over sorcery and magic, which she often uses to summons bolts of lightning or teleport, on which there seemed to be little limit on how many she could transfer at one point. Her Drive is also used to help make her fly through the air.

Inside her body lies one of the three Sankishin, Tsukuyomi, which forms an absolute defence that is impenetrable from even the Boundary and Take-Mikazuchi. Instead of conventional weapons, Rachel uses Nago and Gii with their shape-shifting powers to help her fight, and she rarely lets herself take any direct damage.

Rachel, however, sacrificed a lot of her power once she gave up her position of Amatsumugi and Onlooker. Her magical power deteriorated to the point where she could barely teleport herself.

Library Entry

Rachel Alucard

Head of the Vampire clan, 'Alucard.'

At one time she oversaw the Boundary with the Takamagahara System. She houses one of the Sankishin, the Tsukuyomi Unit, within her, and is an observer that has lived for millennia.

She knew of Ragna from when he was young, and presented him with the opportunity to wield the Azure Grimoire. She is also the one who gave Jin the Susano'o Unit.

She is refined and wise, and carries herself with an aura of elegance. But contrary to her appearance, she's quite free spirited, arrogant, and domineering at times. It is not uncommon to see her vilify anything that does not suit her tastes. She seldom lifts a finger to do anything, and relies on her familiars, Nago and Gii, to do her bidding.

While being a key player in our world, she is forbidden to intervene in its course of events. Thus, it has been her fate to silently observe history repeat itself over and over. But when Noel triggered change to occur once more in the world, Rachel devises a plan to take down her arch nemesis, Terumi, once and for all. She rescues Hakumen, and keep him under her domain.

Rachel is no stranger to the highest ranking member of the NOL, the Imperator. To put an end to the Imperator's scheme, she walks on stage, going from Observer to actor.

As one of the Chrono Phantasma, Rachel orders Tsubaki to use the Immortal Breaker ot destroy her, should Ragna died without being defeated by Jin or Tsubaki. That it was the only way for evil to be eradicated from this world forever.

It is still not known what she meant...' [2]

Variable Heart Glossary

Rachel Alucard

When asking who is the strongest vampire in this world, it would be the “Crimson Vampire”. Or that is what the note that professor Kokonoe wrote said that I saw before.

If I remember the note, she lives in an old castle with her familiars. She has a beautiful appearance and a sadistic personality. She is the Onlooker of the world.

… I wonder if such an existence really exists. - Kajun Faycott [3]
