Homura Amanohokosaka

From BlazBlue Wiki

Homura Amanohokosaka (ホムラ=アマノホコサカ Homura=Amanohokosaka) is the current Imperator of the Novus Orbis Librarium, and the child of a previous Imperator, Tenjou Amanohokosaka.

Appearance

Homura is a young effeminate, yet androgynous human. He has knee-long brown hair, amber eyes, and a pale complexion; on Homura's forehead, there is a small red mark. He wears a highly stylised orange and white sokutai that stops high up on his thighs with small golden ornaments hanging at the rims, and is tied to his waist with a white bow; a red scarf is tied around his collar. A tall black hat sits upon Homura's head that has intricate golden details near its base, and he wears orange platforms over long white socks. According to his mother, Homura inherited his father's hair colour. [1]

During his reign as Imperator, Homura wears a deep purple version of his usual sokutai over numerous layers of red, white, and green kimonos. Instead of his large hat, he wears a large, golden, circular headpiece that faces forward, and instead of his orange platforms, Homura wears red ones.

Personality

Regal and graceful - Homura does not speak much within the series, often keeping quiet whenever present, but isn't afraid to speak his mind, such as defying the wishes of Kagura Mustuki on at least more than one occasion. Homura is very polite and understanding, having shown a great deal of gratitude to Bang Shishigami for leading the Ikaruga people in his absence, but is also humble, asking that those around him don't fret over his safety. Homura is very close to Kagura, and is fond of Bang. [2]

Biography

Homura is a member of the Amanohokosaka family, a clan of exorcists that descended from the Azure Shrine Maiden who had sealed the Black Beast before recorded history.[3] Homura's mother, Tenjou, was the Imperator of the NOL when he was born. This, however, would be a short-lived life inside the comforts of the NOL as the Ikaruga Civil War reached its climax and Tenjou was assassinated by Jin Kisaragi during a coup d'etat spearheaded by Relius Clover, Hazama, Yuuki Terumi, and Meifang Lapislazuli. Thanks to the combined efforts of Kagura Mutsuki, Hibiki Kohaku, and several members of Sector Seven, Homura was smuggled out of the Ikaruga Federation by the former two, and led to an unknown location where they were safe from the persecution of the NOL. To many, Homura was assumed killed, but in reality, he laid patiently in wait, hatching a plan with Kagura to reinstall himself as the new Imperator and to overthrow the administration which had stolen his birthright.

It wouldn't be until the events of BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma where Homura would appear in public. Kagura reintroduced Homura to Bang Shishigami, who had long believed Homura dead - they reconciled. Later on, Homura would be introduced to Jin and Tsubaki Yayoi by Kagura, and the both of them were convinced to join their side in the rebellion. By this time, most of the Duodecim had come to the side of the rebellion. [4]

The current Imperator, Hades Izanami was aware of the rebellion before it could bear its fruits. Personally, she and Nine the Phantom went onto assault Homura and his guard, which consisted of Kagura, Jin, and Hibiki. Here, Izanami publicly abdicated her position as Imperator, and declared Homura as her successor before promptly disappearing to activate Doomsday.

During Doomsday, Homura attempted to hold the NOL together as many of its soldiers disintegrated into seithr as they were being absorbed into the Embryo.[5] It's unknown if Homura was one of the Entitled who were chosen by Amaterasu to inherit the Azure, but both Hibiki and Mai Natsume were sent to guard him in case he was to be targeted during the disarray of the NOL. At some point, everyone naturally dissolved into seithr, but his information was stored by Es.

Homura was last seen in the new world created by Ragna the Bloodedge, presiding over an official NOL ceremony where Kagura, Hibiki, and Jin were present. [6]

Trivia

  • Homura's sex is never disclosed in the Japanese version of the games. However, the English version uses the pronouns 'he/him/his' when referring to Homura.
  • Despite being an important character in BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma, Homura does not speak or have a story sprite in BlazBlue: Central Fiction.
