This is a topic about sprites in the fighting game main series
To Do
- Adding sprites as images and/or in an animated filetype
- Determine differences of sprites between game versions
- Datamining and decrypting pre-CF games
- Which section of the gallery should be used
- Which categories should be used
File Format
JPEGs or PNGs have the advantage of being easy to upload and being data-friendly. Animated filetypes require manual editing and need to be hidden in spoilers or an extra tab to avoid excessive data-usage, but, to my knowledge, there aren't any full animations of the characters online currently, besides private blogs.
Version Differences
Sprites of characters got either minor updates or were reworked between games. One example of a reworked sprite is Ragna's j.B in CF (images from Dustloop)
Such major updates were usually noted in patchnotes, though there are smaller changes which aren't documented. If we decide to also upload minor edits it would be necessary to compare the sprites to determine these.
Datamining
Unlike CF previous games were encrypted, though since these games were already datamined acquiring the necessary tools should be an easy task.
Gallery
Should sprites be diplayed in the characters main gallery, in their move list or should they be in their own tab?
Categories
My recommendation is to use "(Game version) Sprite (Character name)" (e.g. BBCF Sprite Ragna). That way we avoid further clutter in the main categories of the characters.
