Strategy
Izanami is unable to block while the Yasakani no Magatama is deployed. She is also unable to Double Jump, but instead has the Levitate ability, making her quite different from other characters.
At mid-range, her Standing B, Standing C, and Crouching C are all effective due to their long reach. Start with a Standing B to Standing C → additional C, then cancel into A Thunderbolt Lance. A Thunderbolt Lance is difficult for the opponent to counter, even if its blocked. When starting C, combo to D, then deploy the Yasakani no Magatama. After deploying, connect to Standing B or Crouching B, then continue to apply pressure with ← + D or Orchid.
When close to the opponent, use Levitate to break through their guard. The latter half of → + A can be cancelled with a Levitate. By inputting the command for Levitate during the hit-stop, you should be able to smoothly transition. Jump cancelling the Crouching A, and immediately Levitating is a small powerful combination, as well. The input window is extremely small, so start by practicing in Training Mode before diving into actual combat.
Levitate is an extremely unique ability, where Izanami will simply float in the air. While Levitating, she will perform actions as though she were on the ground, and Jumping during Levitation will nullify the effect. While escaping from the Levitate effect, ↑ will be a small hump, and ↓↑ will simply cause you to fall in place. Knowing this, you can dispel the Levitate effect with 🡕, then attack with Jumping B, and input ↓🡕 to quickly follow up with a Crouching B mix-up as soon as you land. Attack while advancing with Crouching B or use 🡖 + C to keep the opponent really close. Then, cancel into other attacks.
Against opponents that attack from midair, use → + A, which has invulnerable attributes for the head. When attacking, follow up with a delayed Arms of Sympathy to initiate a combo. If the opponent is applying a lot of pressure, create some distance using Barrier Block, once you're at a safe distance, use Backsteps or High Jumps to escape. Note, because Izanami doesn't have a Double Jump, it makes it hard for her to escape from the corner of the screen. If you feel cornered, High Jump, then immediately Levitate and Dash to escape the situation.[1]
