Biography

Central Fiction

Transferred into the Embryo, Arakune strangely became one of the chosen. In the Kaka Village, he found Bullet and began fighting her until she managed to fend him off. [1] He was later lurking inside the sewers of Area 28 until he sensed a piece of the Azure, and came across Ragna, assaulting him. However, Arakune sensed Noel, who holds a piece of the true Azure, and stopped his offense, instead opting to hunt down the young woman. He attempted to devour her, but was stopped by Ragna, and nearly killed until Litchi came to his rescue, allowing him some time to flee. [2]

Bang takes Litchi’s place in the final battle

He ran deeper into the sewers before being found by Litchi and attacked her when he smelled the scent of the Azure on her, and then almost immediately began to run away when he realized it was too overpowering for him, knowing that the power of the Boundary that she channels to consume him. [3] Like the other chosen, Arakune was transported to Ikaruga by Nine the Phantom who told him to kill Izanami to claim his piece of the Azure – before doing so, however he was found by Tager, and assaulted him, forcing his former colleague to retreat. [4] He found Nu-13 much deeper in Ikaruga and attempted to attack her yet was repelled by Relius Clover – Arakune fled. [5] In a possibility created by Phenomenon Intervention, Ragna took Arakune’s desire and devoured it. [6]

Arakune was found by Litchi, Tao, and Bang. He battled the three of them before swallowing Litchi, allowing her to meet Roy, and then spat her out once more. Absorbing nearby seithr, the monster desired to become a Black Beast, but was stopped by Bang and then eventually dissolved into seithr. [7] It is unknown if Arakune’s data was backed up by Es and he has not been seen since.

Arakune

A scientist who once worked at Sector Seven.

In his attempt to surpass his mentor Kokonoe, he profusely chased the ‘truths’ of the world, but came too close to the Boundary. As a result, he lost his human form and memories, turning into a creature obsessed with seeking the ‘Azure.’ His body is linked directly to the Boundary, and is comprised of a near-infinite amount of bugs. ‘Arakune’ is how he is commonly known - especially on wanted posters.

Its sense of values is no longer close to what it was while human. Its words often sound like gibberish, but what is understood is its purpose to seek even greater knowledge. Furthermore, maintaining its physical state is extremely difficult, which is why it consumes humans and members of the Kaka Clan to survive.

There have been recorded responses to the names Litchi and Kokonoe, but clearly its memory is shattered.

That became even more evident when prolonged exposure to Litchi cornered it into a state of complete mental agitation. That is, until Relius Clover rescued the creature and took it under his control. Now, Arakune continues to seek the Azure, confined by the strings attached to Relius’s hands.[8]
