Central Fiction

Raquel had sent Naoto on a mission to save every possibility, to save his world. He found himself flung to many different possibilities via the Boundary before finally landing in the Embryo’s version of Bascule, in the 13th Hierarchical City of Kagutsuchi. He wondered if anyone would understand his words or if anyone would attack him. [1] Initially unaware of his objective, he sought out to find Raquel as his priority. He decided to look around, bumping into Celica A. Mercury and Ex Machina: Minerva, and asked for directions, but they, too, were new to the area. After describing Raquel to them, they believed it was Rachel, and the three of them stuck together to travel inside the distorted Hierarchical City. [2]

With Celica and Minerva, Naoto was transported to the Ikaruga Federation and heard Nine the Phantom’s voice telling him to kill Izanami to claim his piece of the Azure. He followed Celica as she ran to find her sister. [3] Eventually, they arrived in the 6th Hierarchical City of Yabiko. He listened to her explanation of her sister, and they decided to travel further into the city – however, he lost her through the crowds. [4]He managed to just see Rachel and pursued her since she looks very similar to his mistress. Naoto caught up to her and began asking her questions that she was unable to answer. He was met with instant hostility and had to battle against her for his life, eventually winning by using Bloodedge. Valkenhayn, much older than the last time Naoto had saw him, arrived to protect his mistress. [5] Naoto was about to fight but was teleported away to the Gate where he was assaulted by Es. After fighting her and losing, Naoto was thrown out of the Gate to a different location. [6]

Still in Yabiko, Naoto found Ragna the Bloodedge, and they fought when the Grim Reaper would not release information on Celica’s whereabouts. They recognised one another’s Drives and became confused over the claims of who is Saya’s older brother (Ragna referencing his sister, Saya, and Naoto referencing Saya Terumi]]. Naoto had to retreat when he realised he had other, more important things to do. [7]

Kokonoe found Naoto in her own time, and wanted measurements from him. She fought him and afterwards noticed that she couldn’t track him back to his possibility. Naoto explained to her the situation and that he needed her help, but her singlemindedness scared him away. [8] He was eventually found by Makoto Nanaya who strongly reminded him of Yuki. They travelled to the frozen space-time within the Embryo and searched for Noel Vermillion, Makoto’s friend. Inside, they were assaulted by Es, who had come to backup Makoto’s data as she had lost her qualification as one of the chosen. Makoto begged Naoto to run as he was one of Es’ targets for elimination, and he did so, also receiving a telepathic order from Raquel to go to Kagutsuchi’s cauldron. [9]

Together again

On his way there, he was met by Es, who told him that Makoto had evaporated to seithr. Naoto nearly attacked her in a blind rage, but stopped when he realised she did not attempt to move out of the way. She revealed to him that he is the “future” while she is the “past. He saved Rachel from being tossed into a cauldron by Hazama, and stopped Ragna from killing the Grimoire. By stopping him, he saved the possibilities like Raquel had requested, and returned back to his own possibility. [10] When he woke up, he was back in his possibility where Raquel offered her outstretched hand to help him to his feet. [11]
