Demi-Humans (亜人 Ajin) are a species that was created during the Dark War to combat the Black Beast. They are often the victims of prejudice and racism for not being human.

Information

Created during the Dark War, demi-humans largely resemble humans, but have animal characteristics that depends on the subspecies they are. Makoto Nanaya, a squirrel type demi-human, has large squirrel ears on her head, and a large bushy tail, for example.

Since they were created by humans for the purpose of war, demi-humans face daily racism, and are treated as second-class citizens despite usually being contributing members of society. Like the Kaka, their bodies are more resilient than humans when handling seithr, but they are not immune, and like the beastkin, they possess incredible physical strength and long lives. This said, however, demi-humans usually do not excel at Arts, but their physical strengths do allow them access to the Novus Orbis Librarium's prestigious Military Academy. They often live in the lower levels of the Hierarchical Cities as a result of their position in society.

Perhaps because of their social stigma and the racism they face, demi-humans are commonly referred to as beastkin, and come under the umbrella term 'beastkin' as well. Lycanthropes are considered a form of demi-human despite their many differences. The racism that beastkin face can be extreme, even going as far as physical abuse for simply existing. [1]
